yeah, the link comes up with a massice acrobat reader file. Could you just email me exactly how we're supposed to do the character creation? or maybe just a file that explains it. does it have something to do with points?
this looks super cool. can i let some of my friends know about this? they might not be experienced RPGers but i think they'd catch on.

The link is to a .pdf file stored on some of our webspace. It should only be about 441K and 32 pages though. It's an abbreviated version of GURPS character creation that they give out free. The real one is much larger. Alai, the character creation does use points and requires you to have a list of possible advantages and disadvantages for your character. So I can't just email you how to do it. However, I can email you the pdf...would that work? About your friends, absolutely. We want enough people here to keep this active and moving. Newbies are totally fine with us, as long as they're willing to learn. After all, we were newbies just a few years ago.

ok, thanks. I'll let my friends know! haha, i know what you mean...we were all rookies not too long ago and people who were experienced were nice in teaching us.

Those thirty-two pages tell you how the RPG works in practicality. Not all of them are required for the character creation. Don't worry, it's not as hard as it looks.
It also is a good beginning introduction to the RPGing with stats world, and to some basic vocabulary. That way, when someone says the word "NPC" you don't say, "I'll have that too."

Sean, the next step is go to the Character Creation thread in the Character Creation board and start creating whoever you'd like to play. Once everyone has a character we can start playing! *cheers* And thanks, I did the colors myself...*nod proudly*
Ty, you have to have created a character to start playing in the RPG, but you can post as much as is legal (i.e. not spamming) on the OOC (out-of-character, namely the General category) boards. And I wasn't thinking about "1984"...I've never heard of it. Although now that you mention it, I seem to remember Alouicious mentioning something about some book that stole our idea...before we had it. >_<
Spica! Yay! Yes, you're allowed to join. Welcome, welcome.
Wow, we have quite a bit of people. This is good stuff...once the character creations are moving along, we can get going! w00t!

do you have a starting date, Alec? How many people do we need before we can start?
how is the RPG going to work exactly? are you going to roll the dice all the time like in the character creation file? will it be like TPS RPGs? or some other way?

Good questions.
No, we do not have an official starting date. As soon as one three-person team is put together, they will be allowed to start missions, etc. So there's some motivation to complete your characters. The sooner yours is done and approved, the faster you get to playing.
As for the actual RPG, yes. It will involve dice and success-fail rolls. You need those stats in your character creation as well as the skills listed. Those skills are basically the measure of your character's skill. He/she can do things outside his bought skills but at a reduced skill level. Some skills cannot be used untrained (without points).
It will also be like TPS RPGs, in the sense of you writing the storyline. You will be posting things like, "Alec crept down the hall, hiding in the shadow. His knife was shivering slightly; he never liked assassinations." But you will also have to have skill rolls in there too. So your post might look like this:
"Skill Check: Move Silently
Alec crept down the hall, hiding in the shadow. His knife was shivering slightly; he never liked assassinations. The guard at the end of the hall had not moved yet. Alec sighted the knife on the man's neck. He had to be very quiet.
Skill Check: Knife Throwing"
The mods will then read over your post and check your stats including attributes and skill factors. They will then write something that might go like this:
"Move Silently: Success
The guard stood motionless at the doorway. It was his job to protect the important person behind the door. Nothing would make him desert his post.
Knife Throwing: Failure by 3, knife hits shoulder.
The guard felt a stabbing pain in his right shoulder. A knife was lodged there. As the man brought his gun up to bear on the murky shadows in the hall, he yelled into his comlink for backup."
So, it requires a bit of storyline on the player's part, in order to present a vivid picture of his character's movements, etc. The mods will be responsible for determining the factors involved in any skill check. For some things, like opening a door in your home or walking, you don't have to make a skill check for. Only something that has a chance of failure, like trying a door in a government building (potentially locked), needs to be run past the mods.
Hopefully, that helps you a little.

Jaja, guess who? [cues theme song] [Oh wait...I don't have a theme song.] [Steals Alec's theme song.] FWAA! Looks interesting. I might RP here, but I'm kinda stretched as it is... Maybe when ARAHTH's over it'll be easier, ja? Hey, if you want I can ask a friend of mine--Twilight--if he'd program a stat system into here. An example would be at .hack Project Lucina. Check the RPing threads (in the 'Sphi Server') and there's a stat table next to each person's post. He programmed that into there, as well as the FM system, which alerts someone when they have a PM. Anyway, he's a great guy and he'd probably do it gladly. Question: I haven't read everything yet (don't have time, gotta run after posting), but will said Mods be active while the people are playing, or is it more TPS style--post'n'wait? Just wondering.

teh GUTH! Yar. Hey, wait...that's MY theme song!!! *Hyuuga Humiliation Glares the daylights out of Guthie* *ahem* Anyway, it would be so awesome if you joined up...I know ARAHTH is taking a lot of time, but do keep us in mind. *puppy eyes* Anyway, the system is more like TPS "post-and-wait" but hopefully the mods (aka the Als Older and Younger) will be able to be on more frequently and to handle the games faster. As for your friend's coding, wow, that's really impressive. Let me have a meeting with teh other Al, and we'll let you know. Ty, you can certianly request specific people for teammates, as long as they're on the same side as you. I can't guarantee that you'll get who you want, but we'll try. Ack, gotta run...schools before lunch with Shell.
